• Follow the Leader: It has been noted by several reviewers (including The Cinema Snob) that the film's predominantly African-American cast (despite the filmmakers the Kendrick brothers being Caucasian) and storyline (a marriage in crisis, a cheating and abusive husband, an old woman being a mentor figure and comic relief) seems to be an attempt at cashing in on the success of Tyler Perry's films, especially his Madea film series, with Miss Clara resembling the Madea character a lot (even the religious elements are present in Perry's films as well).
