Trivia / Thursday Next

Go To

  • Defictionalization: At the Fforde Fiesta, a literary festival dedicated to Jaspre Fforde's work, performances of Richard III with Audience Participation, like that seen in the The Eyre Affair, have been put on, as have reenactments of the fictional "Name that Fruit!" game show.
  • Development Hell: The eighth Thursday Next novel has yet to see the light of day despite the fact that the seventh novel was released in 2012.
  • Series Hiatus: Fforde took a hiatus from writing overall from 2015-2017, as noted on his website. This affected not only the development of Thursday Next, but also Shades of Grey and Nursery Crimes.
  • What Could Have Been: Fforde's website has all sorts of deleted excerpts from all of his works, and quite a few pertain to Thursday Next.
    • The Eyre Affair had a scene detailing exactly how new Felixes come to exist. Read it here.
    • Lost in a Good Book was originally going to open on the sequence where Thursday encounters the Seven Irma Cohens and the neanderthal terrorist, but instead of taking place on a monorail, it was in a department store. Furthermore, the neanderthal in question was originally going to be a suicide bomber, rather than committing Suicide by Cop with a gun made out of soap. Read it here.
    • Several titles in the series have changed over time; for instance, First Among Sequels was originally going to be called "The War of the Words", while "Dark Reading Matters", the hopefully forthcoming eighth book, was going to be the seventh novel.
