  • Dawson Casting: Often the case with Hedvig, stated to be 14 years old, and played by actresses ten years older. The role of Hedvig is considered heavy for a teenager, though. A 1963 adaptation made by Tankred Ibsen (grandson of the author) had a young girl at approximately the right age cast as Hedvig.
  • Whole-Plot Reference: The Daughter from 2016 sets the entire plot in a contemporary environment, and changes a number of names, as well as Hedvig`s age (Age Lift from 13 to 16). Hedvig does keep her original name though. The film acknowledges Ibsen as a co-writer of the script.
