• Edited for Syndication: Originally, the final scene of the hermit crab climbing into Homer's discarded soda can was accompanied by the start of the Beach Boys song "All Summer Long". Years later, all past episodes would have their ending credits (with theme) extended to include the VAs for the Mexican dub. Because they apparently couldn't license a few more seconds of the song to match the new length, the hermit crab scene is now accompanied by an original instrumental piece.
• Out of Holiday Episode: Part of episode takes place during the Fourth of July. It first aired on May 19, 1996 which is more than six weeks before the holiday.
• Write What You Know: The beach house is based on then-show runner Josh Weinstein's parents' house in New Hampshire, which the writers had visited many times. They played several board games when they were there, which gave them the idea to have to the Simpson family play the Mystery Date board game in the episode.
