• What Could Have Been: The idea of the Simpson family rescuing manatees was one of the many proposed plot ideas for The Simpsons Movie pitched by Al Jean in January 16, 2004 during the writers' idea sessions for the film. Jean's idea was rejected for the film but was ultimately adapted into the script for this episode.
