Trivia / The Mystery of the Blue Train

  • Creator Backlash: Written around the time of her disappearance and subsequent divorce, this was Christie's least-favourite novel.
  • First Appearance: Of Mr. Goby, a private investigator working for Mr. Van Aldin would take on some information-gathering work for Poirot in later books.
  • Recycled Script: A grey-eyed English Rose named Miss Grey travels abroad for the first time, to a resort in France, thanks to unexpected money. A rich woman traveling with her gets murdered, and Poirot is on the case. Miss Grey attracts the attentions of two men, one of whom is a Nice Guy who falls head over heels for her practically at first sight. Also she acts as The Watson to Poirot. That nice guy of hers turns out to be the murderer who did it purely for the money, and the solution includes his connection to a lady’s maid traveling under an assumed name. However, the man’s love for Miss Grey was genuine. The girl is going to strike romance with the other guy in the end. The Mystery of the Blue Train and Death in the Clouds: read one of them, and you can solve the mystery halfway through the other.
    • One could also make a case for it being an Adaptation Expansion of "The Plymouth Express", a short story first published in 1923 about a woman found dead in a railway carriage with her jewellery box missing. The cast even includes a count with a suspiciously similar name.
