Trivia / The Civil War

  • Acting for Two: Many of the readers played more than one prominent figure. Paul Roebling, for example, read the roles of his ancestor, Washington Roebling (who would go on to build the Brooklyn Bridge), as well as Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain (and the famous Sullivan Ballou letter). On the Confederate side, Georgia-born Jody Powell, best known as President Jimmy Carter's press secretary, lent his distinctive gruff drawl to figures such as Stonewall Jackson, Nathan Bedford Forrest and John B. Gordon.
  • Breakthrough Hit: For Ken Burns.
  • Role Reprise: Paul Roebling, who voiced Col. Washington Roebling in this film, had previously played the same role in Ken Burns' Oscar-nominated Brooklyn Bridge (1981).
