• Cast the Runner-Up: Kira Clavell (Amaterasu) had previously auditioned for the role of Teyla on Stargate Atlantis. While Rachel Lutrell ultimately got the part, Clavell made enough of an impression to be cast as a System Lord here.
• Real Life Writes the Plot: A minor example. From this point through the remainder of the series Teal'c loses his distinct bald look and his hair's grown out. No on-screen explanation is ever given. The real-world explanation, of course, is Christopher Judge was understandably sick and tired of constantly shaving his head after the better part of a decade. So he successfully lobbied for Teal'c to finally grow hair with this Season.
• The Other Darrin: Jessica Steen, who played Weir in the "Lost City" two-parter is replaced by Torri Higginson, who would continue to portray the character throughout her tenure on Atlantis.
• What Could Have Been:
  • Again, Kira Clavell as Amaterasu gives a glimpse of what Teyla might have been like on Stargate Atlantis had Clavell and not Rachel Luttrell gotten the role.
  • Initially, Richard Woolsey was going to assume command of the SGC during the interim between "Lost City" and "New Order". However, it was decided to keep Weir in place for the story both because of her diplomatic background and to continue the setup to Stargate Atlantis. Woolsey would not return to SG-1 until Season Nine (while the original plan to assume command of the SGC would, after a fashion, be realized a few years later when he assumed command of the Atlantis Expedition).
