- Deleted Scene: There was a scene where Geordi worked with "Lt." Picard in Engineering, having a similar dynamic as between Geordi and Barclay. Because it got dropped, LeVar Burton doesn't appear onscreen, only as a voice calling "Lt." Picard.
- Underage Casting: J.C. Brandy, who played Marta Batanides as a Starfleet academy graduate, was only 17 during shooting and clearly supposed to be several years older.
- What Could Have Been: Ronald D. Moore considered bringing Captain Jellico back to be the commander of the Enterprise in the Alternate Timeline.
