• Write What You Know: The film is inspired by numerous events in writer-director Tyler Norman's childhood, though they're greatly embellished here.
• What Could Have Been:
  • The original script was much more of an overt social satire, meant to evoke the style of John Hughes and Mike Judge.
  • Post-production was cut short when a hard drive containing the film's raw footage was mistakenly plugged into a 120-volt power supply, which destroyed the disk. The film was around 90% complete, and the remainder had to be salvaged from Final Cut Pro render files. The film nonetheless went on to take awards at festivals.
