• What Could Have Been: Before he made Donnie Darko, Kelly wrote a screenplay for Holes. This draft drastically diverged from the source material, and had a darker, post-apocalyptic take with sci-fi elements. Kelly admitted he was naive and was told by the production staff that he was "insane" before ultimately being booted off the film.
