  • Development Hell: The Book 15 update went through this. Books 13 and 14 came bundled together in a massive update in May 2013, then after that all updates had been minor polish updates except for a major side content (and some new main quests retconned into early game) update and another major side content update with two new endgame activities. Even with these side activities, demand for Book 15 hadn't dropped and with the developers not wanting to take schedule and Wizard101 still receiving major content updates, some doubted it would ever actually come before footage of it appeared on KI Live. When it finally did come out on test, it was... polarizing to say the least.
  • Dummied Out: El Tiburon, the Storm Shark companion, was supposed to became available in the crown shop after being defeated, but once the game went live, the badge that served as the flag that added him to the crown shop was removed. This has become a subverted trope for those who defeated him after the third main update. For them he is now available as planned in the beta. For those that had completed the mission, he is still inaccessible, but plans to make him accessible to all in in motion. (Yes, this means currently we have an actual case of a partially subverted trope.)
  • Saved from Development Hell: It was three years before there was any sort of evidence that Kingsisle was even working on Book 15.
  • What Could Have Been: The original draft of the story had the player spending a few books helping Gazpaccio build another clockwork, named Able, to match the power of Kane, and the final battle with Kane happening in El Dorado. However, after Book 15 spent 3 years in Development Hell, they just wrapped up Kane's story arc there.
