• Creator In-Joke: In Control Ms Wiz has a few jokes about the newspapers, as a nod to Terence Blacker previously working as a journalist.
• Creator's Favorite: Terence Blacker has said that Herbert the rat is his favourite character. Podge is also his favourite out of the children.
• Shrug of God: Terence Blacker used to say that Ms Wiz wasn't based on anyone he knew, but later back-tracked and said it was a friend of his.
• Throw It In!: Terence Blacker was giving a talk in a classroom about what should happen in the future. One child suggested she lose her powers after she gets married. Thus we get this joke in You're Kidding, Ms Wiz.
  Jack: Ms Wiz got married and the magic faded.
  Mrs Smith: I know the feeling.
• What Could Have Been: The series began as a picturebook called Miss Hecatty & Class Five. Terence Blacker's publisher didn't think it worked as a picture book and suggested writing it for older children. The title was changed when he discovered there was already a book called 'Miss Hecatty'. Hecate however became the name of Ms Wiz's china cat.
