Many years prior, Alda had driven his father crazy with unending suggestions on how to "improve" their vaudeville act, so he used this opportunity to let his dad's character drive Hawkeye crazy with similar suggestions. Alda's brother Antony plays the medic who finally forces peace between them, a role Antony often played in Real Life.
