- What Could Have Been: Inferno was originally meant to set the stage for Jonathan Hickman's endgame of the Krakoa-era. The other writers ended up enjoying writing in the status quo so much though that Hickman ended up reworking the story instead to building towards expanding the current status quo rather than ending it.
- Working Title: It was originally titled Immortal X-Men before Hickman learned that Kieron Gillen would be returning to X-Men, so Hickman gave the title over to Gillen's book and decided to use Inferno as a homage to the original event since it also fit the context of Hickman's story.
