• Portmanteau Series Nickname: The game's subtitle, "Opposing Force", is simply called "OpFor".
• Torch the Franchise and Run: Downplayed. The decision to nuke Black Mesa was done to halt pressure to set a sequel to Half-Life in Black Mesa, which Valve felt would be creative death. While two further expansions to Half-Life would also be set in Black Mesa, Half-Life 2 is set in a completely different location.
