Trivia / Gravity Falls S2 E8 "Blendin's Game"

Go To

  • Trailers Always Lie: The promos for this episode mainly focused on the Globnar competition and Blendin's return. No mention was made of the Soos storyline, which made up the bulk of the episode.
  • Troubled Production: On the DVD commentary, Alex Hirsch recalls that this episode was extremely difficult to write, because it had so much going on at once, note  that he nearly scrapped the story they had for something much simpler. Jeff Rowe is singled out for praise on the commentary for writing a draft for the alternate story in just two days. Then they went back to the original pitch anyways.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • An alternate, simpler story the writers considered was for Blendin to seek revenge on the twins, only to get stuck with them ten years in the past. While they're in the past, they accidentally prevent Soos's first meeting with Stan. The three of them would then have to work together to get back to the present, while also trying to fix Soos's timeline, Back to the Future-style. Notably, the alternate story didn't explore Soos's relationship with his dad.
    • A gag from the alternate version that wound up cut involved Lolph seeing his time clone murdered in front of him, because the only way to take care of a time-paradox duplicate is to put a bag over the duplicate's head and murder it. To which his supervisor apologized and let him take the rest of the day off.
    • In the story board, Soos's postcard was from Vegas instead of New Orleans. Hirsch changed it at the last moment, because he was worried that fans would think that meant Stan was Soos's dad.
    • A cut character was a Star Wars-style galactic bounty hunter named Dose Huntho.note  Dose Huntho eventually appeared in The Curse of the Time Pirates' Treasure.
    • There was an alternate ending where the twins would use the Time Wish to show Soos visions of his future, where he’s a loving father to his own son.
