- Creator's Favorite: Lift is one of Sanderson's favorite characters in the Cosmere.
- What Could Have Been: The novella wasn't part of the original plan; after her brief appearance in Words of Radiance, Lift was only supposed to return as a major character in the latter half of the series, while Nale was going to show up in book three as a changed man. However, Sanderson realized that the amount of off-screen Character Development was risking the readers being confused or calling Ass Pull, so he created Edgedancer to showcase some of the changes to both characters as they happen.
