Trivia / Deranged

Go To

  • California Doubling: The film is set in rural Wisconsin but filmed just outside of Oshawa, Ontario. This becomes rather obvious in a few scenes where cars (some of which are models sold only in Canada) can be seen with unmodified Ontario license plates.
  • Duelling Works: With The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974), another film inspired by the crimes of Ed Gein. Whereas Deranged is a loose telling of the Gein case, replacing him with a fictional counterpart that commits similar crimes, TTCM took the facts about Gein's grave robbing and making masks and suits from human skin and ran with it, adding cannibalism into the mix.
  • Fake American: With the exception of Roberts Blossom, the majority of the American characters are played by Canadians.
  • Missing Episode: Following a limited theatrical release, the film fell into obscurity for over two decades, with the original negatives believed by many to be lost. The film was eventually rediscovered in Florida some time around 1993 and released on home video by American International Pictures' then-parent company MGM.
