- Follow the Leader: The first arcade is already similar to SNK's own Mechanized Attack; Second Nightmare is much more similar to The House of the Dead than its predecessor in graphics, gameplay and overall feel, with a bit of Resident Evil for added measure.
- Keep Circulating the Tapes: Second Nightmare was made for the failed Hyper Neo Geo 64 system (only 7 games were produced for it) and as such it was never ported and is extremely hard to find. The mobile game as well was discontinued and removed from every app store in 2015.
- Milestone Celebration: Beast Busters Featuring KOF was made by SNK Playmore as a reboot of the series on its 25th anniversary, and it was also released on The King of Fighters' 20th anniversary.
- Sequel Gap: Almost 10 years between the first game and its sequel, and 25 years between it and its mobile successor/reboot.
