• Technology Marches On: In today's world, technology would make it much easier for the kids to confirm whether the adult they suspect of being a fantasy creature actually was so.
• What Could Have Been: According to Debbie Dadey, the first book was originally written with the intention that Mrs. Jeepers really was a vampire. Their editors feared this would be too scary for children and made them change it to be more ambiguous, resulting in the Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane aspect that would become the series' trademark.
