• Fake Nationality: Gael García Bernal, who is Mexican, plays a Spaniard. He had to convince director Pedro Almodóvar that he could speak with a convincing Castilian accent.
• Write What You Know: Pedro Almodovar disclosed in 2019 [1] he witnessed many of his classmates being abused by priests at the Catholic boarding school he attended as a child, and narrowly avoided being abused himself; all with complete impunity. Arguably, yet another tragic layer of meta-narrative to this movie.
