• Ascended Fanon: Prior to the full game's release, there were several fan theories that the moving objects with eyes were symbolic of souls stuck inside the tapes. The full game's "A Fateful End" ending depicts Riley trapped in a piece of meat in the butcher's shop.
• Descended Creator:
  • Wooly is voiced by art designer, animator, and co-writer James Pratt.
  • Blabbot is voiced by composer Patrick "pd" Flattery.
  • Four of the birthday singers are performed by staff members: Pratt, Flattery, game designer Michael Arcadi, and event coordinator Samuel Guglielmo.
  • The parents in the "Disappearing Kid" video are played by Melissa and Chris LaMartina, the filmmakers of the game's live-action videos; Melissa is also one of the co-writers of the game.
• The Other Darrin: Amanda went from being voiced by Chelsea Lecompte in Pilot Episode to Blair Greene-Osako in the full game. Lecompte instead voices the Gret-chan the Doll and the Say n' See weather toy.
• What Could Have Been: Following the release of the full game, James Pratt revealed several things cut from the full game in a video posted on the Dread XP Youtube channel:
  • There were plans for a rewind button, which would allow the player to rewind the tape and the basement would change depending on what time it was. The elements were reused for the pause button.
  • Blabbot was originally meant to be a walkie talkie that the player could carry around to tune into a specific station in the basement. One of the devs suggested that the walkie talkie should be a Speak Spell instead but since they couldn't name it exactly that, Blabbot was born.
  • The Cypher found in the demo of the full game was supposed to be solved using a crossword. However, since the game was planned to be translated into multiple languages, it was cut as translating every single code would've been difficult.
  • A pair of siblings were originally going to factor into the plot somehow, but at some point between pilot and full game, they were dropped.
