• What Could Have Been: Gibson had begun writing Verity and Eunice's story not as a sequel to The Peripheral, but as a Spiritual Successor to (if not an outright volume four of) the Bigend Books, set entirely in contemporary times. After Donald Trump's election, however, he Canon Welded it into the Jackpot Trilogy by adding the parallel future storyline starring Wilf and Lowbeer (which explains why hardly anything of note happens in that plotline) and reframing Verity's timeline as a stub.
