Tear Jerker / The Avengers (Jonathan Hickman)

• When the Illuminati decide to not destroy another Earth and accept the end of the world, we have:
  • Tony pouring himself multiple drinks and deciding to wait out the Incursion, saying "at least I'll beat you."
  • Doctor Strange asking Wong if he's a good man. Wong's response? No.
  • Black Panther sleeping with Storm and telling her, "you'll always be my queen."
  • Reed goes to to see Val in Latveria, and when she feels something is wrong and asks him what he did, he can't give her an answer.
  • Black Bolt stands on the moon watching Earth as the Incursion is about to happen, and all he can do is cry and scream. Usually, him whispering can cause untold destruction and so he has to stop himself from talking, but now he finally lets go.
  • Banner and the Hulk go to the field where the Hulk was created, and Banner sits down, beer in hand and talks to the Hulk. The two smile and accept their fate.
• Odinson and Hyperion's death at the hands of the Beyonders. Especially since, unlike most of the other characters at that point, they were trying to find a way to save everything, rather than engaging in pointless infighting. And in those last moments, Odinson becomes unable to wield the hammer of Thorr, which is only wieldable by the unworthy.
  • When it becomes obvious that they're not making it out of this fight alive, Odinson and Hyperion both accept their impending demise with honor, and share a touching moment just before the Beyonders swarm and kill them.
  Hyperion: I just want to say...for some time, I believe I survived the death of two worlds — now I know it just took a while to catch up with me. It's a dark thing, what my life became...you have made it better, Odinson. Will you wait for me in Valhalla?
  Odinson: Brother...this day I will race you there.
