"Stop looking me at that…you don’t understand…I have to this…"
Lucas Bishop/Bishop

Uncanny X-Men Vol. 1 #494 is Chapter Ten of Thirteen in the Messiah Complex event. It was written by Ed Brubaker, pencilled by Billy Tan, inked by Danny Miki and Allen Martinez, colored by Frank D’Armata, lettered by Chris Eliopoulos and edited by Nick Lowe It has a cover date of March 2008.

After reaching the lab of the mutant inventor Forge, he discovered Forge waylaid by the X-Man Bishop, who then attempted to kill the baby, But the Marauders suddenly arrived, led by former X-Man Gambit. They defeated Bishop and escaped with the child and now, X-Force and Bishop have left in pursuit.

Tropes:

  • Big Damn Heroes: Believe it or not the Marauders burst in to narrowly prevent Bishop from murdering the Mutant Messiah.
  • Black Comedy: When Scott asks Emma if she can sense the comatose Jamie Madrox’s thoughts, she has a snarky reply.
Emma Frost: I wish. But…no. He’s basically brain-dead right now…I mean more so than usual, even.
  • Curbstomp Battle: The Marauders absolutely tear Bishop a new one and only leave him alive to slow down the X-Men.
  • Face–Heel Turn: While the reasons are still unknown, Bishop has turned his back on the X-Men and has orchestrated most of the major events in this arc. The X-Men themselves are completely unaware of this.
  • Fearless Infant: While the baby cries, it quickly shuts up and remains unfazed to the situation unfolding around it.
Karima Shapandar/Omega Sentinel: Well…you aren’t afraid at all. Extraordinary.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Bishop is fully willing to murder a newborn infant, only being stop by (ironically) Mister Sinister’s Marauders.
