The X-Men, Brotherhood, and Acolytes track Apocalypse to Egypt, but fail to prevent him from coming back to life. Mankind is now in terrible danger.

Xavier: Yes, our greatest battle is just beginning. - Flashback: Beast translates the Hieroglyphics, and viewers see the backstory of Apocalypse, including the battle against Rama-Tut, using the secret of Rama-Tut's power on himself, and being betrayed by his most loyal followers.
- Hero of Another Story: Apocalypse's most trusted council ended up sealing him away out of fear of what his ultimate plan would result in.
- Lampshade Hanging: Wolverine and Sabretooth keep focusing on finding the scents through the storm. Gambit points them to the footprints on the ground.
- Party Scattering: It gets forced on the characters by the collapsing floor, splitting them up into multiple trios in different parts of the structure: Xavier, Beast, and Magneto; Cyclops, Quicksilver, and Pyro; Storm, Jean, and Iceman; Nightcrawler, Shadowcat, and Colossus. Beast suggests finding the others, but Magneto says they have to press on.
- Mundane Utility: Trapped in a darkening chamber, Magneto tells Pyro to make use of his power.
- Mythology Gag: Nightcrawler, Shadowcat, and Colossus being split into their own grouping references how they were members of Excalibur in the comics.
- The Quiet One: Shadowcat lampshades how Colossus doesn't talk much.
- The Reveal: Mystique was never under Mesmero's control. Due to Destiny's previous prediction, she willingly went along with this on the condition that she and Rogue would be spared when Apocalypse was released.
- Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Wolverine and Sabretooth, due to their long-running feud. Gambit, due to being sick of their constant sniping.
- Villainous Rescue: As the floor collapses as part of the trap, it's Magneto who saves Xavier.
