In "The Schoolhouse," a secret HYDRA prison, Toni "Iron Patriot" Ho watches as Roberto "Citizen V" Da Costa beats up a HYDRA guard. He is still sick, but the makeshift regulator Ho patched together is keeping him alive. Da Costa then rips a chunk of the wall off to free a colleague, McGonagall, in a neighboring cell. He tells his colleague to spread the word that they're breaking out, then charges into the hallway using the chunk of the wall for cover. Ho warns Da Costa that his regulator is literally made of chewing gum and candy wrappers and so he should make sure he doesn't burn it out. Da Costa defeats several HYDRA goons and laughs that the guards are so pathetic that there is no chance he will burn out his regulator. However, at that moment General Robert "Red Hulk" Maverick walks into the hallway, and his body is still under the control of HYDRA nanites.

In Paris, two HYDRA goons walk through the streets and note how civilians claim to support them but are willing to attack them when they think they can get away with it. They note, though, that they have a powerful battleship which can devastate any ground forces with ease, and this prevents any resistance movements from building up momentum. Furthermore, the destruction of Las Vegas has helped to convince locals that HYDRA's battleships are able and willing to wipe major cities off the map if it so chooses. As such, while the French military has surrounded Paris, they have not entered and HYDRA still maintains total control of the city. Finally, HYDRA has captured some local superheroes and is keeping them in a brig on their battleship with power-dampening fields, thus neutralizing them. All that remains to oppose them is the remnants of Euroforce. However, Euroforce then arrives in a fleet of stolen HYDRAMechs, led by Doreen "Squirrel Girl" Green.

Da Costa and Maverick battle, though the HYDRA guards have difficulty controlling Maverick with their joystick and remote. Da Costa then uses all the solar energy he's built up to blast Maverick with intense heat. Maverick's Red Hulk form can withstand it, but the nanites in his body burn away. This releases Maverick from HYDRA's control. Maverick then claps his hands and creates a sonic boom which defeats the HYDRA goons who were piloting him. Maverick then notes that he's been in his Red Hulk state for hundreds of hours in a row, far exceeding safety guidelines, and wonders if this should bother him. Da Costa and Ho, however, say they can worry about that after they free the other prisoners.

Back in Paris, Green orders Euroforce to attack HYDRA's air force, including the battleship and some smaller drones. Nigel "Outlaw" Higgins takes the lead and dumps riot foam on the HYDRA battleship. The foam was designed to block wifi so as to suppress journalism, and as a result it jams signals from the battleship so it cannot pilot the smaller drones it was using to defend itself. Then Alain "Peregrine" Racine and Jeannine "Guillotine" Sauvage fly close to the battleship and attack it, dealing severe damage. Finally, Aikku "Enigma" Jokinen phases into the engines and then hardens herself, blowing them apart and crashing the ship into the Seine. This allows the trapped heroes to break free and they defeat the remaining HYDRA agents aboard the ship.

Jokinen gets on the radio and reports that all HYDRA forces in Europe have thus been defeated. Ho, who has finished liberating the Schoolyard with Da Costa and Maverick and who then began listening in to emergency radio channels, overhears and compliments Jokinen. Ho explains what she has been up to and says that it looks like HYDRA is beatable, though it will still be a tough fight. She also admits that her drive to build bigger and better weapons was unhealthy and she's going to give that up. She'll still be a hero, but she won't become obsessed with inventing better armor and guns anymore. Jokinen, relieved, says she loves Ho. The heroes in Europe then prepare to go home.

Somewhere else, the man who both Sam "Cannonball" Guthrie from the slavers takes him to what looks like an idyllic suburb. The man says that Guthrie is in Glenbrook, a happy small American town, but hints that they nonetheless are not on Earth.
