Tropes

  • The Chosen One: Parodied. Charlie and Alan believe that Jake must be the chosen one after he manages to wear down and break Evelyn in one evening, something that the two of them haven't been able to do in their entire life.
  • Covert Distress Code: Charlie takes a more direct approach in trying to dissuade Jake from telling Evelyn about his weekend with his other grandparents, but the idea is the same. He calls out 'bad idea', claiming he's referring to some trivial article in the newspaper he's reading, but giving Alan pointed looks when he says the phrase 'bad idea'. Alan doesn't pick up on it until it's too late.
  • Distracted by the Sexy: Just as Charlie and Alan decide to go get Jake out of Evelyn's house, the women's volleyball team walks into the bar.
  • The Dreaded: Jake does NOT want to spend an evening with Evelyn, and Alan is sympathetic to Jake's unhappiness, bribing him heavily to get him to go along with it and feeling awful about the effect it could have on him.
  • Magnum Opus: The highest rated episode of the show on IMDB.
  • Too Spicy for Yog-Sothoth: Handling Jake by herself for a whole night leaves Evelyn exhausted and broken.
