"Zach hides his pain well, which is why he saw Chloe's so clearly. And why he wanted to do what he could to make hers go away."

The episode opens with Bryce still missing. Everyone at Liberty High is on edge, not knowing what's going to come out or how things will transpire.

Zach has begun to wear the lucky rabbit's foot that Chloe gave to him months before; a fact Clay begins to notice.

Flashback. It's eight months before current events. Chloe has left Liberty High after finding out she was pregnant with Bryce's baby. The only person Chloe claims to have never told about the pregnancy is Bryce himself. We see that Chloe and Zach have developed a close friendship with Zach even offering to raise her baby as his own when Chloe confides in him about her pregnancy. However, Chloe decides that she wants to have an abortion. Zach provides his support and pays for an abortion for her. They arrive at the clinic to attend the appointment and her met with false 'clinic escorts' who turn out to be pro-life protesters, one of which puts a bloody model of a fetus in Chloe's hand as she attempts to push past. After her appointment, Chloe reveals to Zach that she is leaving Liberty High.

Present Day. Zach is relaying the abortion story to Ani and Clay. He tells them that Bryce had no idea how close he and Chloe were or that she was pregnant at all. This couldn't be the reason why Bryce attacked him on the football field. He tells them that Chloe had also broken up with Bryce months beforehand.

Cut to another flashback. Bryce is upset about his break up with Chloe and Ani is present to help console him. At his new school, Hillcrest, he is shown to be trying to make new friends. He meets with a group of similar football players and he's pleased that he can finally start to make conversations. However, the illusion shatters when one of the group abruptly reminds him that he's a rapist and they don't want to hang with him. Later on in the day, some of the team mates push Bryce down a set of stairs after practice, further illustrating how far he's fallen from his popular jock heyday. Ani's mother cleans the injuries back at the Walker home as Bryce's mother accuses him of being unable to sort his life out.

Present Day. Ani is in Bryce's old bedroom in the Walker home. She finds a notepad and sees there are imprints from handwriting still left on the paper. She shades over the prints with a pencil to see the writing. Ani learns that Bryce wrote a letter addressed to Jessica. It's unclear whether he had the chance to tell Jessica what he wanted to say.

Tyler is seen walking by the river, having struggled to tell Clay something the whole day. Ani's voiceover states that some people react to violence by committing violence themselves.

Police are seen pulling a body out of the river. The body belongs to Bryce Walker.
