Julius is accused of taking bribes after he whistleblows about Memo 618. Diane realizes her being assigned so much pro-bono work was a trap.

Tropes

  • Conspiracy Theorist: The entire firm becomes this investigating Epstein's death. In the end, when they deliver their theories to the authorities, they realize how ridiculous it sounds.
  • Insistent Terminology: Lucca insists that the hairdresser is in fact a celebrity hair-stylist.
  • Loophole Abuse: Diane, Adrian and Liz go to Gavin to say they're ready to buy their shares out with the $20 million needed as per the original agreement. Gavin responds that they actually need $80 million because, according to the bylaws, that agreement held only if the team generated more revenue after the merger. Too late, Diane realizes that's why Gavin has been letting them do so much pro bono work, to keep their billable hours low and ensure they can't afford to buy out STR Laurie.
  • Properly Paranoid:
    • The lawyer Benjamin Ulrich Defoe says Epstein was afraid of everyone.
    • Defoe himself ends every statement he makes about Epstein with a disclaimer that that's just his own opinion.
  • The Reveal: Marissa and Jay never get this far, but the viewers get to learn that Epstein's mysterious "most important thing" is his amputated penis in a cryonics tank.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Jay figures out that Epstein and Maxwell must have communicated through a book cipher based on Donald Barr novel "Space Relations".
    • Marissa theorizes that the solution to the mystery is the plot of Parasite.
  • Take That!:
    • One of the associates thinks Epstein was killed by the Trumps, but another thinks the Trumps aren't organized enough to pull off something like that.
    • Epstein's arcitect thinks he has horrible taste in buildings.
