Stan visits with his younger brother Ted, a successful doctor with whom Blanche takes a keen interest. After one evening out with her Ted ends their date and ends up going out with Dorothy on the same night. This causes a huge rift between the two girls. Meanwhile Rose is suffering from crippling insomnia and cannot work out why.
Tropes:
- Actor Allusion: Dorothy recounts how while on a double date with Stan and Ted at a soda shop, Stan "entertained" them by sticking straws up his nose and pretending to be a walrus. In the "Cousin Maude" episode of All in the Family, Arthur's character Maude recalls Archie Bunker doing the same thing on a double date with her cousin Edith and herself.
- Insomnia Episode: Rose goes without sleep for three nights in a row before Dorothy discovers the cause: Rose has been drinking tea loaded with caffeine in the evenings.Rose: But our bodies need caffeine! Especially women our age! Otherwise our bones will get brittle and we'll walk all stooped over.
Dorothy: Calcium, Rose. Calcium, not caffeine. This is why you haven't been sleeping!
Rose: You mean if I stop drinking that I can sleep?
Dorothy: You may even blink again.
