Recap / The Bridge Ch 22 Facets

Go To

I am home.

Aria Blaze is happy. She's back home in Equestria, in her true form as a Merpony-like Siren, frolicking in the ocean. It doesn't matter that it is getting harder and harder to enchant sailors with her singing, what matters is that she is home...

She wakes up in her cabin and sighs. It was only a dream. The three Sirens hate being trapped in these weak human bodies that cannot breathe water. Sonata took a swimming class, but Aria and Adagio didn't bother because it feels like an insult to only be able to stay underwater for less than a minute. Their cabin walls are filled with as many images of the sea that they could find to remind them of home. She shudders when she remembers her fight against Monster X, and how after she and Sonata escaped, they found Adagio, who reported she detected a large source of magic nearby. Aria vows to one day become strong enough so that no one will ever be able to scare her again like Monster X did.

Aria is about to sleep again when she jolts upright. She detects someone nearby emitting hatred and rage like a bonfire. She gets dressed and is about to wake Adagio and Sonata, when she remembers that fateful day when Adagio over-confidently convinced them to help her conquer Equestria, certain feeding off the populace's hatred would make them strong enough to overcome even Princess Celestia. The end result was that Star Swirl the Bearded shoved them through a portal into this human world. Out of spite, she chooses to find the energy and feed on it alone.

She wanders the woods, using her necklace as a compass, when she finds a figure with his back to her going berserk and ripping the branches off of trees. His body is emitting a truly massive cloud of the green mist of hatred. Aria feeds, happy to find it is much richer than the hatred normally produced by the humans they enthrall. She already has a tenth of her full power back and it is still climbing. The figure is Kaizer Ghidorah in a human body. He is absolutely pissed that someone shoved him through a portal before he could kill Grand King Ghidorah. He looks around, and when he sees her, he automatically assumes she was the one responsible and charges at her.

Aria panics and runs, but when she realizes she won't make it back to the cabin, she jumps into a hole in the side of a hollow tree. She bangs up her arm, but she manages to fit and the hollow is thankfully vacant. Kaizer Ghidorah finds her, but he's too large to fit in the hole and his arm is too short to reach her, so he grabs the edges of the hole and pulls. He's so strong that the wood starts to break apart. Aria desperately sings, trying to influence his mind and make him go away. However, her magic song has the opposite effect and he gets even angrier. He starts tearing the tree apart even more while screaming things like, "HE KILLED H—! WH—E IS HE?! WHERE! IS! HE!?" and "WHY HAVE YOU TAKEN ME HERE!? WHY DID YOU INTERFERE?!" In pure desperation, Aria keeps singing, but subconsciously sings a different song, one she had never heard before. She is amazed when he stops and starts emitting a red mist. Aria has never seen this before, but she absorbs it and is shocked to find it is even more powerful than the green mist he was emitting earlier, and the power boost she receives is enormous.

He stares at her, and she tries to make out his features. His hair is short but unkempt, jet black with the fringes being grizzled into a dull gold or yellow. His face is obscured, both due to the lighting and its midnight black tone. The only legible portion being his eyes due to the iris' slight glow. They have no whites, the entirety of the orbs aside from the red iris being an inky black. He appears to be wearing a necklace or choker of some sort, which gleam slightly in the reflection of Aria's own. It has the same pair of red embedded gems Aria had previously spotted on his bracers.

Kaizer leans in with an expression that resembles a curious dog, then says, ".... Eleve-?" Before he can finish, he hears footsteps and turns just as another figure tackles him. Aria looks out and sees Kaizer and his attacker battling and moving away from the tree, then quickly runs back to the cabin.

Kaizer sends his attacker flying with a punch, but clutches his hand in pain. He attempts to fire a blast from his hand, but all he achieves is a brief flash of light and a vision of Monster X's fight against Gaira. He tries again a few more times and gets similar results. He sees Aria about to surrender her necklace, Gigan lying battered and broken, and walking back to the portal with Irys. He decides something is wrong with his powers and this must be settled in close combat. The masked man clad in black and crimson attacks again, but Kaizer catches his arm and breaks it, then judo throws him, but the man doesn't utter a single cry.

Kaizer Ghidorah then stomps on the man's head and dislocates his shoulder before knocking him into the river, but the man immediately comes back up. He nonchalantly resets his shoulder and arm, making no sound and showing no signs of pain. Kaizer begins to get worried. He's trapped in this weak human body and unable to access any of his powers except for a limited amount of strength, speed, and durability, while his attacker seems just as strong, has spiked knuckles, feels no pain, and doesn't get tired. As a last ditch effort, Kaizer tackles him, then grabs his neck and starts twisting with all his might. The attacker punches him over and over again, doing some serious damage to his gut and chest, until Kaizer finally manages to snap his neck. He triumphantly throws the limp body back into the river, where it flows downstream and sinks. Kaizer limps away, but his hair and sclera change to white and he passes out, back in Monster X's human form.

Harmony watches these events with concern, and expresses sympathy that a noble soldier such as Monster X would have to share his body with a rampaging dragon like Kaizer Ghidorah. Even in his human form, he is potentially more powerful than the Sirens and Sunset Shimmer put together, and this human world has so little defenses and inexperienced defenders. His mysterious attacker is just as powerful and absolutely reeks of dark magic. As she replays the scene where he tried to break open the tree Aria was hiding in, she regrets having divided her power into the Elements of Harmony so long ago. Since they have only been returned recently, it will take a long time until she will be ready to get involved personally. Perhaps there is still time to contact King Caesar again or enlist aid from Equestria. Harmony cancels that train of thought and is honestly amazed when she sees the scene where Aria's new song managed to calm Kaizer down, and the scene where Kaizer experienced visions of Monster X's life. She then watches the unconscious Monster X lying in the snow and decides he is not completely lost after all. To keep Kaizer Ghidorah under control and point him in the right direction, she will have to focus on keeping two people close together. She can only pray it works.

At the bottom of a frozen lake the river feeds into, Enjin revives and pops his neck back into place. This defeat was but a minor setback, and every time he heals from an injury, his body reinforces itself, so he can't be defeated the same way twice. As he crawls out of the lake and sets out to finish the job, Bagan gloats. He can see and hear everything Enjin experiences. Not only is Kaizer Ghidorah weak and vulnerable, he has discovered another source of energy in this world...

Anguirus and Big Macintosh work to harvest the Zap-Apples while Granny Smith supervises. Anguirus finds this kind of work a nice change of pace, and is only a little weirded out by Granny's bizarre mannerisms that are supposed to help the Zap-Apples grow and ripen. He is also amazed that Granny Smith was able to get Destroyah to obey her and sent her to keep the fruit bats away. After everything is harvested, Granny Smith promises to make Zap-Apple jam for everypony, especially Applejack when she comes back, then orders Anguirus to spend the rest of the day in town. A little worried about her due to her advanced age, he protests, but she points out Princess Celestia ordered the Kaiju to assimilate into society, and to do that, they need to interact with it more. He heeds her advice and walks out.

He wanders through Ponyville, pondering his new life of peace and then absent-mindedly enters Ki Seong's restaurant. She is very happy to see him and calls out to "Quill Coat", but he runs out, unable to understand why he feels so nervous and why his face feels so hot even though his true form normally swims through lava. A customer asks what his problem was, but she smirks and says he'll be back.

Leave me alone.

Destroyah uses her Micro-Oxygen and Laser Horn to clear away weeds and scare off animal pests, but whenever she is sure nopony is looking, she just kills them. She senses the Cutie Mark Crusaders hiding behind a bush and tells them to come out. They tell the "princess" that her powers are so cool and ask where she learned such spells. Enraged, she roars with all her might that she is not a princess, for princesses are delicate ideals of feminine beauty, while she is pure muscle and fangs, death and destruction. However, despite her display, they just continue to fangirl over her, completely oblivious to her attempts to scare them away. She thinks they have been a nuisance for too long, and she should just kill them, consequences be damned, but when she tries, she feels a tight clenching in her chest that gets worse until she gives up. To answer their question, she doesn't know how she learned these "spells", she just knows destroying things is her special talent. The fillies tell her there is an old storehouse that needs to be demolished, and they would like her to do it. She agrees as long as they leave her alone for the rest of the day.

My, I love gossiping.

Rarity works on several new dresses for an upcoming gala. She's tired, but every time she closes her eyes, she returns to her nightmare. She starts repeating to herself that it was only a dream and Nightmare Rarity is gone for good. Anguirus knocks and asks if he can come in. He notices her mane is frayed and her ears are drooped, but she claims she's fine. He asks if she can give him more lessons on etiquette so that he can interact with ponies more easily. She smiles and asks what he wants to learn first: table manners, addressing ponies, or acting proper in front of a lady. He immediately says the last one, so fast he bites his tongue. At this, she smirks and asks if some pretty mare caught his eye. Incredibly nervous, he lies and says it is because the majority of Ponyville is inhabited by mares. She's not buying it for a second but decides to give him his first lesson. She holds out her hoof and says, "When a lady offers you her hoof, you kiss it." Annoyed, he retorts, "I'm not kissing your foot, you walk on those."

The Crusaders lead Destroyah to the storehouse. She starts to get suspicious, remembering that back on Terra, destroying a building meant getting attacked by the army and human-friendly Kaiju. They explain that because the building is very old, the Apple family wants to tear it down so a new one can be built in its place. Such reasoning makes absolutely no sense to her. To her, you only destroy something if you hate it or are afraid of it. Nonetheless, she uses a combination of her Micro-Oxygen, Laser Horn, and brute strength to knock down the structure. The three fillies cheer, and she feels a funny feeling in her chest. Nothing is making any sense to her; she can't stand their voices and antics, but no matter how hard she tries, her anger has been replaced with something else that she cannot identify.

Destroyah decides to test if she still has a technique she had developed since her duel with Godzilla Senior. She is satisfied to learn she still does. She fires a massive beam of plasma and Micro-Oxygen from her chest, her Wave Motion Cannon, and atomizes the remains of the storehouse. The Cutie Mark Crusaders are stunned at first, then cheer louder than ever. Destroyah is struck with inspiration. If she still has the Wave Motion Cannon, perhaps she has another ability from her true form. She concentrates and is surrounded by a white mist. They asks what she is doing, and when the mist clears, they find themselves surrounded by an army of baby Destroyahs.

Rarity continues to give Anguirus manners lessons, and advises that his spikes may seem threatening. He fumbles with the spikes on his forearms and is surprised to learn that they are attached to bracers that he can take off. To be on the safe side, he will put them on if he needs to turn back into a Kaiju. Mentioning the word Kaiju reminds her of her nightmare, so she decides to ask him to describe the Kaiju he knows and if any of them have three horns. He describes Xenilla, Destroyah, Gomora, and Yonggary, but none of them match the silhouette of the monster from the nightmare. Anguirus knows of one other, but shudders and explains that this one is so dreaded that he does not want to speak his name. He says he is nothing to worry about, as Mothra's ancestor sealed him away and he won't be back for about 30000 years. She asks how he can be so sure, so he explains that at the time the evil one was sealed away 70000 years ago, ancient civilizations created himself, Rodan, and a few other guardians to deal with him when he was due to awaken 100000 years in the future, but due to unforeseen circumstances, several guardians including himself were awakened prematurely. Rarity is somewhat calmed, then double-takes at the fact that Anguirus is over 70000 years old. He awkwardly comments that he was hibernating for almost all of it until a few years ago so that's why he hasn't aged much, so she jokes that he should teach it to the mares of Ponyville.

Suddenly, they hear a crash, and bolt outside to find a motorized cart had crashed into the side of town hall. The damage to the cart has broken up the words on the side, but Rarity sees two "F"s and automatically knows who it belongs to. Then they find what appears to be a baby Destroyah, happily babbling in baby talk.
