Chapter 14: Rin POV

Rin joins L, Tohru, Suzui, Kobayashi, Fujinuma, Yukihira, and Fujiwara in the first group, opening the double doors in the living room. Beyond is a massive ballroom with a windowed door to the outside and a stage with a door on either side.

As they discuss their kidnapper's motive, the stress of the potential danger causes Rin to finally lose his temper, blowing up at the rest of the group about not taking things seriously. At the fear on their faces, he hastily tries apologizing, and Kobayashi consoles him by saying that they're handling it differently, but him being angry is natural. Suppressing his skepticism at her words due to his own circumstances, he thanks Kobayashi and apologizes to the others.

He focuses on exploring the stage with Fujiwara, finding standard controls and operating equipment before going through a door that leads to a tech room. Rin exits the other door, finding Fujiwara there as well through a door on her side, and is in disbelief at the gargantuan theater that he saw through the tech room's window. He calls the others, who are equally bewildered at the theater, and they look through the many rows of seats in the audience. A massive impact shakes the mansion, and at Yukihira's shout, Hinata and Emma appear on the stage, saying Killua tried kicking down a door. As they begin talking about what they found in the basement, Kuroko directs them back to their side of things.

The first group returns to the entrance hall and looks over the coat racks and shoe cubbies by the door, Rin finding nameplates in various languages and his own sweater and shoes, along with a pair of correctly sized sandals under his name. Yukihira remarks to Rin that things could have been worse: they could have woken up alone, which Rin quietly concedes while wondering how Gōjō can see with a blindfold.

They then move through the left doorway, which leads to a second living room mainly identical to the first, except for having windows in place of bookshelves and an overall brighter color scheme. A doorway on the left side of the living room leads to a grand dining room with a massive circular table and forty chairs.

Yukihira rushes to the next doorway, and Rin follows to find a massive kitchen with multiple refrigerators, freezers, pantries, stoves, etc. They confirm a mutual love of cooking, and as Yukihira says he cooks for a living, they learn that they can circumvent whatever is impeding them talking if the listener figures it out first. L admits he had theorized as much and hadn't shared it because he wanted to avoid causing unnecessary strain. Yukihira and Rin elect to cook breakfast, but first check the last door in the kitchen to find a well-stocked meat locker.

As they make to go back to the others, a hanging calendar on the wall catches Rin's eye, and he notices the date it shows is 1-1-1.
