Simon and Kamina in the newly dubbed (by Kamina) Lagann, take Yoko to her home village of Littner, where her folk have been fighting the Beastmen, masters of the Gunmen for a long time. The two young men from Jiha realize the Beastmen have been killing any humans who dare venture to the surface, like Kamina's father who left Jiha and Kamina behind many years ago.
Another battle ensues and Simon, realizing that the Beastmen were responsible for the constant earthquakes such as the one that killed his parents, rushes to help Kamina take over an enemy gunmen. However Kamina finds himself unable to move it. But galvanized by a skeleton he and the others had discovered earlier, Kamina claims the gunmen as his own in order to aid Simon. Kamina then names his gunmen Gurren.
After the battle, Kamina and company bury the skeleton, and discover it was Kamina's father.
