Recap / Stories Of Sodor S 4 E 4 Robbery

Go To

A new engine arrives on the Peel Godred Branch to help with the increasing workload. Meanwhile, a daring robbery is foiled, but there may be more to come.

This episode contains the following tropes:

  • Bittersweet Ending: The authorities fail to capture Johnny Cuba after he successfully robs the Peel Godred Branch, but they do manage to capture Ed and Joe's benefactors and the men who robbed the Brendam bank.
  • Canon Character All Along: Downplayed and Zigzagged as Cuthbert the new engine is revealed to be Johnny Cuba, who was the villain of the TUGS episode High Winds. There he was a tramp steamer, while here he's a Western Australian Government Railway W Class. Not to mention that he never appeared in any of the Thomas episodes, but he did appear in TUGS which was more of an inspiration for this series.
  • Cool Old Guy: Jack Bailey the fogman, prevents a potential robbery by stopping a saboteur with just his fists. Unfortunately, the police view his actions as vigilantism and throw the book at him.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: The Lucky Lamp can be seen among the cargo Geoffrey was delivering at the start of the episode. Beforehand, he and Percy both agreed that it was "very lucky" that the robbers who attempted to pilfer the train didn't actualy steal anything.
  • Kick the Dog: Sheffield carries on the trend of referring to Adam as a war criminal.
  • Mythology Gag: Henry tells Samantha that whenever an owl hoots, a mist rolls in, just like in Haunted Henry.
  • Named by the Adaptation: Old Bailey, the fogman from Haunted Henry is given the first name Jack.
  • Police Are Useless: Much more evident here, as not only do the Sodor police fail to catch a quartet of bank robbers, but get so desperate after who knows how many days without a lead that they resort to looking in beehives and boxes of fish.
  • Sequel Hook: "That wasn't the last we saw of Johnny Cuba."
