Airdate: February 11th, 2010

Albatross & Finch is hosting a Sadie Hawkins Dancenote . After hearing about this, the whole gang scrambles to find dates for the dance:

  • Jen's still upset about her breakup with Travis Gibson, so she initially has a lot of trouble finding a guy to ask to the Sadie Hawkins, but she's eventually able to find a date with a really nice guy.
  • Caitlin has trouble finding a date as well, especially since she's not used to making the first move with guys. By sheer accident, she ends up asking Wyatt's coworker, Wayne (the guy who use to run Underground Video), to the dance and can't bring herself to admit the truth.
  • Neither Jude nor Wyatt are ultimately able to find dates for the dance, so they sneak into the dance with Jude disguised as a girl.
  • Jonesy, naturally, assumes that he and Nikki will go the dance together since they're a couple, but she's too caught up in a new friendship with a temporary coworker at the Khaki Barn that she ends up forgetting to ask him to the dance altogether (which she doesn't realize until Jude and Wyatt call her out on it at the dance itself).

Tropes

  • Incompatible Orientation: Nikki's straight and Jean's eventually revealed to be a lesbian—when the gang suspects that Jean has a crush on Nikki, the latter tries asking her about it as casually/subtly as she can while they're at the Khaki Barn. Jean quickly guesses that Nikki's trying to ask if she's a lesbian and confirms that she is—however, Jeannote  mistakenly thinks that Nikki has a crush on her and was trying to ask her out on a date, so she lets Nikki down easy by claiming that she's flattered but not interested, especially considering that [Jean] already has a girlfriend.
  • Mistaken for Gay: Jean worded her confirmation of being a lesbian as her letting Nikki down easy, thinking that Nikki had a crush on her and was trying to ask her out on a date.
  • Straight Gay: Nikki's new (temporary) coworker, Jean, is the first character in the series where they're explicitly stated to be gay—Jean even has a girlfriend, who's revealed to be Connie (the drummer from Wyatt's band).
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: At the actual dance, Jean and her girlfriend are treated like every other couple there. It's justified, because Canada had legalized gay marriage in July of 2005, and this episode was aired in February of 2010 (a little over four and a half years later).
