Go To

Earl continues Pop's training by using the power of Training Montage to increase his progress. However Mordecai and Rigby get sick of hearing the same song daily and Pops accidentally trampling them with his cuts, so try to speed things up by switching out the music. However the faster pace cause Pops to go out of control. The Park Crew must stop him before he ends up destroying the dome with his training.

Tropes

  • All for Nothing: Although it's not really commented on, despite everyone's effort to shut the boombox off and end the montage early, they don't actually accomplish this until the end of the song anyway.
  • Artistic License – Music: Mordecai claims that the song he and Rigby switched the montage music with is five and half minutes long. However, the song in question is "Through the Fire and Flames" by Dragonforce, which is actually seven minutes and twenty-one seconds long.
  • Coin Walk Flexing: Pops does this as a part of his training. As the training montage goes haywire, he starts telekinetically floating the coin between his fingers instead, before becoming powerful enough to liquify the coin to have it pass through all finger gaps at once.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: In-story example. The Training Montage is used in-depth here and explored such as screen whips, overlays, transitions, etc.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Naturally Mordecai and Rigby are the cause of the problem in this ep. Though it was well-intentioned and in the end, it does pay off as Pops is more then ready once the boombox is destroyed when it would've took at least two weeks if they had went by Earl's pace.
  • Oh, Crap!: Earl when he finds out Mordecai and Rigby switched out his training tape with a much faster-paced one.
  • The Power of Rock: The faster the music becomes, the more power it fuels the montage with — and the more out of control it gets!
  • Training Montage: Weaponized in this case. Earl describes it not as only a film technique, but an actual technique that can increase one's training in short time. However it also depends on the choice of music and the faster-paced one that Mordecai and Rigby switch the tape with (in this case "Through the Fire and Flames" by Dragonforce) causes Pops to go overboard, which ends up sucking the park crew within the whole montage too.
