• All for Nothing: In the end, the Recess gang are successful in convincing the art society and Miss Finster to preserve Spinelli's chalk mural. But it proves short-lived when everyone remembers they left the hose on, and it washes away Spinelli's art.
• Bittersweet Ending: For all their troubles, Spinelli's art work is accidentally washed away. But for Spinelli, it's no big loss, as she sees it as an outlet for her bad mood. So some good still came out of it.
• Hidden Depths: For being a tomboy who likes to play sports, the episode explores how unwittingly, Spinelli has an astounding talent for chalk art.
• Irony: In the end, Spinelli thinks nothing of the lost chalk art that was washed away by the hose, other than an outlet for her bad mood. She has little to no idea what went into saving her mural.
