While training Pikachu and Donphan, Ash and friends discover Evian, a student of a nearby Ninja School, spying on them. Arriving at the Ninja School, they learn from the teacher Angela that there is a thief causing a lot of robberies in the area. During their various lessons at the school they meet a wild Bonsly who cries a lot and doesn't get along with the other Pokemon at the school. Everyone at the school suspects Bonsly as the culprit behind all the crime, but Brock defends it and takes care of it, as it is still a baby. Team Rocket appears and tries to capture all of the Pokemon at the school. After taking care of Team Rocket, Brock battles and captures the Bonsly so that he can look after it.
Tropes
- Crocodile Tears: Bonsly's specialty and the entire purpose of it's signature move: Fake Tears. It's because of this that others tend to have a tough time deciding that whenever it cries, if it's tears are genuine or not.
- Pintsized Powerhouse: Despite being barely a foot tall and a baby at that, Bonsly still has enough power to knock around Brock.
- What the Hell, Hero?: Both Brock and Angela call out the students (three particular ones) for blatantly accusing Bonsly of stealing the Oran Berries without proof. When the three students would later gang up on Bonsly from running away from Team Rocket, Angela tears into them by saying Bonsly is still young and calls the three of them cowards for their actions.
