NCIS is still trying to locate Gibbs and McGee after they disappeared in Paraguay, while the Dept of Defense question Vance and Torres on the legitimacy of the operation. In Paraguay, Gibbs and McGee try to escape their captivity.
Tropes:
- Hauled Before A Senate Subcommittee: Vance and Torres get this treatment from the DoD on account of the illegality of the mission.
- Put on a Bus: Quinn departs from the main cast, having to care for her mother full time.
- Reasonable Authority Figure: The leader of the aforementioned committee. He officially castigates Vance and Torres for violating the rules, but off the record, he admires what they do and authorizes the rescue mission for Gibbs and McGee.
- Sympathy for the Hero: One of the terrorists gains some sympathy for McGee after he finds out about his wife and unborn child. When he visits McGee in his cell, he admits that he lost his own family a few years ago.
- The Dog Bites Back: One of the terrorists sympathizes with McGee's situation after he learns about his wife and unborn child, and turns on his leader; he was only interested in the work for the money, not the geopolitics.
- Time Skip: Gibbs and McGee spend two months in captivity since the last episode.
- You Are in Command Now: With both Gibbs and McGee in captivity, Bishop ends up in charge of Team Gibbs... Well, Torres and Reeves anyway.
