Go To

The crate containing Guybrush arrives at LeChuck's fortress. Guybrush tries to explore the area, but finds only dead ends. He notices that the grotesque art pieces on the walls can be swung open like rotating doors to reveal hidden passages, but trying them at random he only manages to return to his starting point.

Guybrush examines the artwork more closely, realizing that it depicts various types of bones arranged in different orders. This reminds him of the song sung by his parents during his daze earlier, and he discovers that he still has the napkin from the dream in his inventory - with the full lyrics. Following the lyrics, he enters one secret door after the other, and finally arrives at LeChuck's sanctum where he discovers Wally in a jail cell. However when Guybrush tries to grab the jail door key off its rack, LeChuck and Largo suddenly appear and apprehend him.

LeChuck hangs Guybrush and Wally by their wrists over a pit of acid, with a candle slowly burning a rope that would eventually snap and drop them to their deaths. LeChuck leaves, and Guybrush quickly uses the phlegm-thickening juice he bought earlier to spit a powerful loogie off various scenery objects and finally hit the candle flame. In the ensuing darkness, Guybrush and Wally escape their bonds and make their way through the fortress, only to find themselves in a dark room.

When Guybrush lights a match to see where they are, [[he is horrified to discover that the room is full of boxes of TNT]]. He is then burned by his match, which drops to the ground and ignites the explosives, blowing the entire fortress to smithereens and propelling Guybrush miles away into the air.

Tropes:

  • Bond Villain Stupidity: LeChuck leaves Guybrush and Wally in their death-trap after explaining exactly how it works (even clarifying if Guybrush asks!), without so much as a single guard.
  • Chekhov's Gun:
    • The song Guybrush got from his parents ends up being a guide to get into LeChuck's inner sanctum.
    • Guybrush uses the spit-thickening drink to get out of LeChuck's trap.
  • Match in a Bomb Shack: Guybrush lights a match in what turns out to be LeChuck's powder stores. Naturally, the match burns his fingers, causing Guybrush to drop it and set off the explosives.
  • Rube Goldberg Hates Your Guts: LeChuck leaves Guybrush and Wally in an elaborate trap designed to drop them into a pit of acid.
  • To the Pain: LeChuck lays out the workings of his death trap for Guybrush and Wally in minute detail, then says that after the acid melts Guybrush down to a still-living skeleton, LeChuck will rearrange his bones into a "screaming chair" so he can always enjoy the pained screams of his worst enemy.
