Unsatisfied with the Cloud Recesses' food, Wei Wuxian spices it up (literally) with chili sauce while eating with Lan Wangji.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Jiang Cheng gives Wei Wuxian a jar of chili sauce so he can enjoy his meal, but he does it by chucking the jar right at his face.
- Plain Palate: Being so used to his clan's "plain and tasteless" meals, Lan Wangji completely struggles to eat his chili-drenched bowl of rice. In his first bite his entire face is already flushed, and he can barely breathe after finishing his meal.
- Rhetorical Request Blunder: Wei Wuxian groans that he can't do anything during a meal and snarks at Lan Wangji to tell him all the other rules. Although he didn't mean it, the latter proceeds to do just that in his typical straight-laced manner.
- Wingding Eyes: Wei Wuxian's eyes turn into spirals when he gets hit with the chili jar by Jiang Cheng. He then becomes starry-eyed when he sees the jar and presents his chili-laced rice to Lan Wangji.
