Recap / Macgyver 2016 S 2 E 21 Wind Water

Go To

MacGyver: Look, I can get you out with the money, without anyone firing another shot, but you gotta promise me that no one else gets hurt.
Booth: Why the hell should we trust you?
MacGyver: Because I just made a radio out of a pair of headphones and snuck three hostages out of the bank without you noticing, using Ethernet cable and a coffee mug.

In Puerto Rico, the team use their downtime to help Mac's friend Carlos rebuild his house after a hurricane. When thieves target the $2 million stored at the bank where Carlos works, Mac is taken hostage.

Tropes:

  • Chekhov's Gun: The unstable ground Mac mentions early on. Towards the end, he uses it to knock a pole down across the road and delay the gang's escape.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Gang leader Booth beats Mac up after catching him sneaking hostages out the bank.
  • Remember the New Guy?: Carlos, Mac's friend from his Army training.
Mac: I never would've made it through basic training without your help.
Carlos: Well, Mac, you wouldn't have needed my help if you hadn't started arguing with our sergeant on the very first minute of the very first day.
Mac: Well, it's it's mathematically impossible to give 110 percent. That's all I'm saying. Which is probably why they made you the Green Beret, and me the guy who stands next to things that might explode.
  • Too Dumb to Live: After getting away with the money following Mac's plan, Booth decides to abduct Mac with the intention of forcing him to work for the gang. Because relying on the knowledge of someone who's with you unwillingly can only end well.
