Aesop Amnesia: Mary, who had previously met and learned to get along with Native Americans (or at least aknowledge them as normal people) in three different episodes, is seen here dismissing them as "a bunch of heathens" when her Pa hides them at their house. Charles reprimands her by reminding her that believers or not, they are still children of God. She seems to change her views after seeing how the hatred of Indians gets the better of people.
Big Sister Instinct: When Laura starts an argument with Hugh MacGregor's son after he calls their father an "Injun lover", Mary tries to keep her out of starting a fight. But when the enraged boy grabs her rope and wraps it around Laura's neck to show what his father intends to do to Indians and their supporters, Mary loses it, kicks him in the side and punches him in the stomach, leaving him on his knees to mumble more threats to them.
Dirty Coward: MacGregor and his posse track and persue the group of unarmed Indians all the way through the prairie, but once they find them refugeed by another group with firearms, they back down and decide to come back with a U.S. Cavalry. After the group escapes and the Cavalry gives up and suggests that the posse go after them by themselves, MacGregor is clearly upset but gives up.
Disproportionate Retribution: Indians enter Walnut Grove to ask for the service of a doctor for their Chief, with warriors surrounding the territory intimidately to make sure their posse won't be attacked. MacGregor's suggestion? Form a group of armed men to wipe out the entire tribe, women and children included.
Does This Remind You of Anything?: Charles hiding the tribe of Indians at his place while there's a posse of hateful townsmen out to wipe them out seems reminiscent of scenarios where persecuted groups are hidden at suporters' houses beneath everyone's suspicion, such as during Nazi Regime.
