Recap / Law & Order: Special Victims Unit S19E3 "Contrapasso"

Go To

Written By Richard Sweren

Directed By Jean De Segonzac

A man is brutally castrated in what is explained by his three (female) witnesses as a form of revenge for his own attack against him in the past. Barba must then decide whether to prosecute the women or defend them. In addition, Benson finds out some rather disconcerting news about Noah's biological mother's family...

  • Artistic License – Law: The detectives can't arrest the Villain of the Week because of the statute of limitations, until one of the victims accuses him of forcible rape, which has no such limitation. This would only be true if the rape happened after 2006, when the law changed.
    • The defense attorney gave a lengthy summation in which she argued that even though the defendant is guilty, the jury should acquit because he had been punished enough. No judge would ever allow an attorney to give such an improper summation.
  • Never My Fault: After finding out Ellie's mother is alive, Olivia blames Trevor for not finding this out before she adopted Noah. Trevor points out Olivia has a database, which she claims is for police business, even though locating Ellie's next-of-kin fell under that description.
