The badly burned corpse of a Jewish diamond dealer is found in an alley. Before being burned, Ezra Shore had been beaten to death. In the beginning, suspicions turn toward a a group of black youths hate crime. As the investigation proceeds, the detectives look into the victim's brother Isaac and business deals.

- Backfire on the Witness Stand: When Stone tries to call up a witness who had claimed to have seen a group of his friends kill Ezra, the witness winds up recanting on the stand to actually seeing the boys kill him, causing Stone to withdraw the case.
