- Evil Lawyer Joke: After a defense attorney questions why a criminal would kill another defense attorney instead of the district attorney on the case, Briscoe quips that someone might actually care about the murder of a district attorney.
- A Fool for a Client : Jensen decides to represent himself. When he says that this is his intention, the judge reminds him that this means he has a fool for a client.
- Left Hanging: The end of the episode implies that the defendant, Harold Jensen, will return in a future episode to appeal the conviction. Neither Jensen nor the appeal is ever addressed again.
- Murder by Mistake: Subverted. The murder was designed to look like Harold Jensen.
