Ventus meets Phil in Olympus Coliseum. His young pupil, Hercules, is begging him to let him enter a tournament. Another boy named Zack comes up and asked to be trained as well. They are suddenly attacked by some Unversed, so the three boys team up and destroy them. Phil decides to train whoever performs better in the upcoming games. Ven and Herc train together for a while. Herc tells him that his father is Zeus, king of the gods, and that he wants to become a true hero so he can rejoin the gods on Olympus. Phil tells them that there are two brackets, East and West, and he put Zack and Herc in the West because there's a strong opponent already in the East.
After a few matches, Zack and Herc fight each other. While watching, Ven is reminded of Terra and Aqua. Phil interrupts the match by telling them that monsters are attacking the town. Zack and Herc are willing to stop the match to fight them, but Ven offers to deal with them on his own so they can continue. He heads outside and finds a huge swarm of Unversed. Their numbers seem overwhelming, but Herc comes to offer his assistance. Soon, Zack shows up as well to help them finish the Unversed off. Phil tells them that the mark of a true hero is a willingness to help others. Since Herc was the only one to go help Ven right away, Phil decides to continue training him. He admits to Ven that he wasn't really going to stop training Herc, and that it was just a test of character. With that, Ven bids farewell to Zack and Herc to continue looking for Terra...
