Recap / Johnny Test S 8 E 15 Johnnys Game Of Bones

Go To

While at an dinosuar themed amusement park, Johnny and Dukey find some dinosaur bones at a digging exhibit. Wanting to see real dinosaurs and see which one is better, they have Susan and Mary use their evolution ray on the bones to bring a T-Rex and Triceratops back to life. Naturally, things go awry.

Tropes

  • Big Damn Heroes: Blobby ends up saving Johnny and Dukey after they get launched into the air and nearly fall into the waiting mouths of the dinosaurs.
  • Did Not Think This Through. Johnny chooses the T-Rex as his chosen dinosaur and seems to have the advantage in his contest with Dukey until it's shown that the T-Rex's arm are too small for certain tasks, like climbing, which causes him to lose.
  • Herbivores Are Friendly: Implied with Dukey's statement about the Triceratops, but Averted later on when it gets evolved.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: When the T-Rex and triceratops are first evolved, they're pretty docile since they were just evolved to have motor functions and nothing else, essentially the equivalents of a baby. But after Johnny loses the contest to Dukey, he thinks it's a good idea to evolve his T-Rex further with Dukey doing so to keep things fair. This ends up being a bad call as, as Susan and Mary point out, they've evolved them to the point their predator instincts are now in full effect, and quickly come to see the Test siblings and their dog as food (and yes, Dukey points out the Triceratops is technically a herbivore, but that's hand waved as a side effect of the ray).
  • Running Gag: A blob being dubbed Blobby that Susan and Mary test the evolution ray on earlier is seen building something through the ep. It's eventually revealed to be a ship which he uses to save Johnny and Dukey from getting eaten by the dinosaurs.
  • Pokémon Speak: Blobby can pretty much just say his own name.
  • Uplifted Animal: Our heroes only recourse to avoid being eaten by the now feral T-Rex and Triceratops is to evolve them enough that they gain intelligence and learn empathy. The ploy works and the dinosaurs not only manage to learn to speak but are much more sophisticated as well and befriend the group.
